Active Birmingham Anchors Host First Sharing and Learning Event
Last week marked a significant step forward in making physical activity more accessible across Birmingham, as the Active Birmingham Anchor Organisations hosted their first Sharing and Learning Event at The Sanctuary in Castle Vale. The event successfully convened a diverse group of stakeholders, bringing together community members, local organisations, and system partners from the sport and physical activity sector to collaborate on strategies to remove barriers to more active lifestyles. Community Impact at St. Paul’s
St. Paul’s Community Development Trust is a community hub in Balsall Heath, Birmingham. It offers education, childcare, family support, wellbeing support, after-school care, a city farm, and various other community services.
St. Paul's is one of the Active Birmingham anchor organisations.

Sustainability at Sport Birmingham
Earlier this month, the Sport Birmingham team got together at the Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife Trust Eco Park. The team discussed and developed ways to become more environmentally friendly, and to promote awareness of the importance of sustainability across the sporting sector. Participation in the workshop and community action helped to stimulate discussion with the aim of further developing and shaping Sport Birmingham's environmental strategy and policy. The Sport Birmingham team were joined by Richard Holmes, founder and director of Final Third, an organisation that helps sporting organisations to lead on sustainability. Check out the video below.

BBS at 50 Festival of Sport
Members of the Sport Birmingham and Access Sport team were delighted to attend the British Blind Sport at 50 Festival earlier this month. The sport and physical activity festival was held to celebrate the organisation’s 50 year milestone. Paralympic gold medalist Lora Fachie spoke at the event, and lots of activities were on offer to try including rock climbing, judo, archery, goalball, cricket and showdown.
One of the organisations in attendance was Sense Adventures, who offer a broad range of activities including guided day walks in the Malvern's. Participants from the Birmingham area are welcome. If you are interested in participating or volunteering for them click here for more information. |

Funding and Training Update
Better Youth Spaces The Better Youth Spaces fund grants programme in England, offers up to £100,000 for small-scale equipment or refurbishment to improve youth facilities in priority areas. For the current equipment-only round - covering everything from arts, sports and music gear to vehicles, furnishings and IT - applications close on 6 November 2025. For more information click here.
The Turner Trust
The Turner Trust offers grants to charities working in areas including: Children & Young People, Disabled & Health, Community & the Elderly.

Sport England Movement Fund If your organisation and project are eligible for funding, and your project aligns with Sport England's goals, you could receive up to £15,000. The scheme provides funding as either a contribution to a crowdfunding campaign or as a grant. For more information and guidance and to apply click here.
Forte Charitable Foundation
Organisations are eligible to apply for grants between £2,000 and £10,000 that can cover core costs, salaries, running and specific project costs. The grant is aimed at projects that provide community support in underserved areas. For more information click here.
Cash4Clubs Cash4Clubs offers grants of up to £2,000 for adult-focused sports clubs, especially in areas of greatest need or under-represented groups. Supporting facilities, coaching, equipment and training. For more information and to apply click here.
National Lottery Awards for All England - Environment Fund
Funding is available for voluntary, statutory or community organisations.
The aim of the fund is to help projects that:
- Help people connect with and care for nature in their area
- Make a positive difference to local green spaces
