Sport Birmingham welcomed hundreds of people to Edgbaston Stadium for the Community Celebration Awards earlier this month. The awards honoured the best of community sports and physical activity, with 10 awards up for grabs. Guests included community organisations, system partners, local authorities, sponsors, and former Sport Birmingham colleagues. Developing Young People
November was a busy month for Sport Birmingham's programme of activity alongside School Games...
FABRIC Dance
With the help of FABRIC, School Games and Sport Birmingham launched a dance project aiming to help teachers within Secondary SEN schools to develop their understanding, confidence and creativity around delivering dance.
Pupils also had an opportunity to explore dance with the support and guidance of the professionals from the FABRIC team at Birmingham Hippodrome. The day culminated in the young people performing their own dance piece, developed and choreographed during the day.
FABRIC is a Midlands based dance development organisation with a vision to inspire people through dance, transforming lives, communities and places. This project promises to provide brilliant new opportunities for physical activity and creative expression for pupils within Secondary SEN schools in Birmingham.
Develop Your Way
The Birmingham Your School Games ‘Develop Your Way’ event was held at Alexander Stadium. Giving young people opportunities to explore different career options in the sport and physical activity sector, whilst developing their transferable skills. On the agenda were topics including resilience, adaptability and teamwork. The young people tried their hand at some team building exercises. Guest speakers included Sport Birmingham Ambassador Dan Smith and GB Judo Champion Tom Davis.
Inclusive Leadership
Sport Birmingham proudly launched a new leadership project for young people with SEN within Birmingham. The aim of the project was to encourage young people’s passion for sport and develop leadership skills. GB Paralympian Darren Harris joined, along with The Mason Foundation and Sport 4 Life. |
