We are delighted to announce that the Sport Birmingham Community Celebration Awards are being held on 21st November 2024 at Edgbaston Stadium.
Sport Birmingham is 10 years old, and we are committed to recognising community sport in what has been an exciting and impactful decade for our Active Partnership. Over the years, we have developed close relationships with communities, organisations and individuals across the city in connection with our shared vision for an active healthy city for everyone. We look forward to a fantastic night, proudly celebrating community, sport and physical activity across our city!

Access Sport The paralympic sport of boccia was one of the brilliant range of sports that featured at Access Sport’s Multi-Sport Festival. The sports inclusion charity, partnered with Sport Birmingham to run a free inclusive multi-sport festival at Nechells Wellbeing Centre. The day included a range of sports for participants to try including boccia, archery, badminton, and rock climbing. Participants enjoyed an exhilarating day of sport and activity. Members of the SB team popped along, and got involved with all the fun!

M.A.D. Visit Ninja Warrior
Sport Birmingham’s business partnership with Ninja Warrior Walsall continues to go from strength to strength. The Make A Difference Programme (the youth arm of Sport Birmingham) had the privilege of supporting over 160 young people to access the facilities at Ninja Warrior Walsall.
Thanks to the generosity of Ninja Warrior Walsall, young people from Handsworth were able to enjoy two days of free fun at the fitness and activity adventure park inspired by ITV’s hit TV show. The opportunity was cherished by the young people, many of whom have limited opportunities to access days out and this type of special activity environment. For the full article click here

School Games Is Back With a Bang!
With the beginning of the new academic year, Sport Birmingham’s collaboration with School Games is back with a fresh programme of activity! October and November will feature launch events for three exciting new programmes - Active in Mind, FABRIC Dance and Develop Your Way.
Active in Mind Project Launch Building confidence and resilience through the power of sport and physical activity. Sport Birmingham are collaborating with Active In Mind who will be delivering a programme of events, aimed at supporting young people to develop self-confidence and self-regulatory skills through physical activity. Active in Mind is a Youth Sport Trust programme that supports mental health in adolescence. Led by athlete and peer mentors, their programme uses the transformative role physical activity can play in strengthening mental health and resilience.
FABRIC Dance Project Launch With the help of FABRIC, School Games and Sport Birmingham are launching a project to help teachers within Secondary SEN schools to develop their understanding, confidence and creativity around delivering dance. FABRIC is a midlands-based dance development organisation with a vision to inspire people through dance, transforming lives, communities and places. This project promises to provide brilliant new opportunities for physical activity and creative expression for pupils within Secondary SEN schools in Birmingham.
Develop Your Way Launch
The Develop Your Way leadership programme aims to develop young people’s passion and aspirations for a career in sport. With the kick-off event being held at the Alexander Stadium, the young people will be involved in multiple workshops and have the opportunity to meet a variety of inspirational people who have a role within the sporting industry. Schools will have the opportunity to work with their local SGOs and the Sport Birmingham team to develop their own school-based project which will be showcased at our end of project celebration event. There will also be optional opportunities throughout the project which will give the young leaders the chance to experience different volunteering opportunities at local and well recognised events across Birmingham.

Funding and Training Update
Edgbaston & Northfield NNS Fund Grants of up to £10,000 are available to help local community groups in Edgbaston and Northfield to deliver projects for vulnerable people. For more information and to apply click here (Younger Adults 18-49) and here (Older Adults 50+).
Howden Grassroots Heroes Competition Win a £500 prize for your Sports Club with the Howden Grassroots Heroes Competition. The competition offers clubs the chance to nominate their volunteers, acknowledging their dedication and impact. Grants for physical activity projects for people with Parkinson's Parkinson's UK are providing grants of up to £3,000 to support physical activity projects for people with Parkinson's all over the UK. For more information and to apply click here
WCIT Grants Grants for non profits are available for organisations that make use of information technology, relating to one or more priority areas - education, inclusion, IT for charities, and public understanding of IT. For more information and to apply click here.
Grass Pitch Improvement Fund
The Grass Pitch Improvement Fund (GPIF) aims to tackle inequalities by providing improved access to good quality, safe playing facilities for targeted cricket groups. The fund will run until March 2027, or whenever funding is fully allocated, whichever is sooner. For more information and to apply click here.
Clothworkers Foundation The foundation offers grants towards buildings, fittings, fixtures, equipment and vehicles. They are also hosting a free 'meet the funder' in November, for more info click here.
Severn Trent NeighbourGOOD Scheme Through the scheme, local groups, charities, and community project owners can apply for support to make a difference in their communities. The scheme offers funding and hands-on volunteering from Severn Trent employees. For more information and to apply click here.

Building on the Community Sport and Physical Activity Offer in BirminghamThe above event in October aims to give community sport organisations in Birmingham the knowledge and tools to develop a year-round sporting offer, focussing on sustainability and enhancing community sport and physical activity provision. StreetGames, in partnership with Sport Birmingham and the Aston Villa Foundation, will use this as an opportunity to present their findings from the latest research and learning from across the city and share examples of best practice. The Skills360 platform offers a range of e-learning, that provides foundational training and qualifications, including accredited CPD points.
