Inspiring the Next Generation Through Careers in Sport
Last month, our MAD team coordinated a fantastic careers event at University College Birmingham, welcoming around 35 attendees each day throughout the week. The strong attendance highlighted the enthusiasm of young people to explore future career opportunities and develop the skills needed for long-term success. The sessions explored the benefits of work placements, the skills, experience and behaviours that employers value, and the wide range of career pathways available within the sport and physical activity sector. The event ran across 4 days, and featured inspirational talks from members of the UCB sports department.
Sport Birmingham's Development Officer for People and Skills, Ben Gutteridge, also attended to introduce Skills360 - a free online skills and knowledge platform developed by Sport Birmingham.
The event provided valuable insights and practical guidance, helping attendees take positive steps towards rewarding and sustainable careers in the sector. |

Introducing Welfare360: A Smarter Way to Access Welfare and Safeguarding Training At the end of July, Sport Birmingham, in partnership with Active Herefordshire & Worcestershire, will be launching Welfare360 - an innovative digital tool designed to simplify access to welfare and safeguarding training for sport and physical activity clubs. Developed within the Skills360 platform, Welfare360 brings together local and national training opportunities in one easy-to-use hub, helping Club Welfare Officers, safeguarding leads, coaches and volunteers quickly find the learning that best meets the needs of their organisation. By reducing digital noise and streamlining available training, the platform makes it easier than ever to strengthen safeguarding knowledge and create safer, more inclusive environments for participants. Whether you're looking to refresh your safeguarding knowledge, develop your welfare expertise or identify training tailored to your sport or activity setting, Welfare360 provides a single point of access to high-quality opportunities that support clubs at every stage of their safeguarding journey. Birmingham School Games Multi Sports Festival
Earlier this month, Sport Birmingham was proud to support the School Games team in delivering the Birmingham School Games Multi Sports Festival, held at Moseley Rugby Club.
The event brought together more than 230 young people for a day of fun, physical activity and trying new sports. The festival focused on developing physical literacy, giving participants the opportunity to 'Move, Feel, Think and Connect' through a variety of engaging activities.
The festival showcased the power of collaboration, with colleagues, partners, sports clubs and National Governing Bodies working together to create positive experiences that inspire young people to lead healthy, active lifestyles. The event was supported by sports leaders from Christ Church Academy, Eden Girls Academy and Queensbridge School, whose enthusiasm helped make the day a great success.
Young people enjoyed taking part in a range of activities, including padel, volleyball, cricket, golf and funetics agility challenges, with plenty of smiles and new skills on display throughout the day.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this year's festival such a memorable and inspiring event.
