As we head towards the end of the academic year, we’re pleased to share our final newsletter of the year, packed with city-wide opportunities, updates and ideas to support your work in schools. This edition shines a spotlight on women and girls, building on the fantastic energy, conversations and inspiration from the recent Girls of Brum showcase.

Girls of Brum Summer Showcase Inspires at Alexander Stadium
Over 450 girls from schools across Birmingham came together earlier this month for the Girls of Brum Summer Showcase at the iconic Alexander Stadium, proving that not even the British weather could dampen their enthusiasm for sport, physical activity and new experiences.
The annual showcase event brought together young women from across the city for a day dedicated to participation, empowerment and inspiration. Despite persistent rain throughout the day, the atmosphere remained vibrant and energetic as girls embraced every opportunity to get active, learn new skills and build lasting friendships.

Connect to your community…
Girls of Brum showcased a wide variety of sports and physical activity opportunities in school and in their local community. Alongside more traditional sports, the young people had the opportunity to try exciting new activities such as fencing, weightlifting, wrestling and shooting. The activities encouraged girls to step outside their comfort zones, discover new talents and interests, and build confidence through positive and enjoyable experiences.
Following the success of Girls of Brum, we are keen to help schools maintain the momentum generated on the day by connecting them with the activity providers who attended. This will enable girls to further explore the sports they enjoyed and continue developing their interests and skills.

National School Sports Week
Running from 6th - 12th July 2026, National School Sports Week champions inclusive movement in all its forms.
National School Sports Week 2026, powered by Sports Direct and Everlast, encourages schools, organisations and communities across the UK to get active together. Inspired by a milestone year of global sport, the campaign shines a light on the everyday encouragement that takes place in playgrounds, classrooms and communities.
With Everlast and National School Sports Week Ambassador Conor Benn championing fitness, confidence and positive mindset, the campaign celebrates every sport, every form of movement and every young person. From playground games to major sporting moments, the week aims to help children find their rhythm, develop healthy habits and enjoy being active.
Watch the National School Sports Week 2026 Hero Film and be part of a nationwide celebration supporting the Chief Medical Officers’ recommendation that children and young people achieve 60 active minutes every day.
